Indian summer…

It’s been a gorgeous fall here in Montrose. The trees are turning all shades of orange and yellow, and the days have been sunny and mild. Everyday has been a good day to ride, and lots of Harleys are cruising by the shop. Don’t forget to wave as you cruise by! As always, we’re busy inside turning out quality tattoos of all shapes and sizes. With the season of swimming and sun behind us, now’s a perfect time to come in and catch a top-notch piece of work! So hustle on down for a new tattoo! And while you’re here, don’t forget to pick up a new Mt. Idy t-shirt, and rep your favorite shop in Lee County!

3rd Annual Charity Walk-In Day

Each year, we at Mt. Idy choose one Saturday to work our tails off, tattoo everyone we possibly can, then donate the proceeds to a local group or organization. The first year we tried it out we donated to the Montrose library. Last year our group was the Montrose Riverfront Museum. This year we are working to help a group that is a crucial part of our education system, and that is the music program at Central Lee High School, specifically the marching band.

We will be opening our doors an hour early, at 11 am, in hopes of accommodating more tattoos, and will be tattooing until roughly 8 pm so everyone can head down to see William Elliott Whitmore play at the Montrose Watermelon Festival that night.

If you’ve are a new customer, a loyal client, or simply a loyal member of the community and would like to see your hard earned cash go towards a good cause and get a tattoo in return, please come down and get tattooed or just drop a donation in the jar. This project will allow Central Lee’s marching band to purchase some much needed equipment and sheet music for their program.

Tomas Garcia is FANTASTIC!

This Sunday, which is the 25th of July, we at Mt. Idy have a special treat for our patrons. Tomas Garcia, an internationally known tattooer and painter will be available to do tattoos and answer all of life’s questions for you curious souls. While his internet personality is quite loud, he is a quiet human being in person, brimming with talent and humility. We welcome him to what is surely the most hillbilly tat shack he has ever worked with our open arms. Below, you can see some of his amazing work:

Guest Artists!!!!

This week at Mt. Idy we’ve got an adorable gal coming in to fill the third chair! Her name is Melissa Baker and she and her husband own a little tat shack down in Knoxville, Tennessee. She will be working with us Thursday through Sunday of this week only, and still has a couple of spots left on her schedule for appointments. Check out some of her work:

I met Melissa when she was learning to tattoo at Taylor Street Tattoo in Chicago back in 2004, I believe. She was mentored by Mike Malone (Rollo) and Keith Underwood. Her work was amazing from the get go and I am thrilled that some Lee County folks are going to be able to get some tattoos done by her.

Also, Melissa will be doing piercings while she’s at My. Idy so if you’ve been thinking about having a piercing done, she’s your gal. Stop by, we will be there from noon to 6 pm each day.

June 12

Today is walk-in Saturday at Mt. Idy Tattoo! We started doing walk-in Saturdays a couple of years ago as a solution to the overwhelming schedule around here. We wanted to give people a day to come in and get smaller tattoos on a walk-in basis so they didn’t have to wait several months for the appointment schedule to free up.

Walk-in Saturdays have been very successful and they are our favorite day of the week! We open at noon but typically people start lining up in the morning in hopes of being first in line. We even have people who come early early and finish up their sleep in their vehicles. Jamie parked in front of the shop at 2:30 am the other week and slept all night in his car! If you want to get tattooed on a Saturday, we prefer to keep the tattoos to an hour or less, and don’t forget to come early!

This week we’ve been busy tattooing the FedEx guy (en route!), new papas, school teachers, Vietnam vets, and many other local characters:
